SohoFrames’ Dedication to Sustainability

Framing Services / SohoFrames’ Dedication to Sustainability

Sustainability is a priority of SohoFrames Ltd and has been since the business was formed fifteen years ago. SohoFrames’ staff have regular discussions on what can be done to lower our carbon footprint and increase sustainability through the materials and processes used to create bespoke frames

Stacks of various wooden boards organized on horizontal wall-mounted shelves in a workshop.

We make frames that are intended to last many, many years if not a lifetime and beyond (when looked after!) This is part of the reason why our solid wood frames are so popular with us and with our clients. A solid wood frame we make from timber. The carbon inside that timber remains inside too.

Long wooden planks and metal pieces are laid out on the floor inside an industrial workshop.

A significant part of the energy needed to make a frame is elbow grease, human power, spent hand finishing and polishing. We collect the timber from the yard ourselves, often carrying planks back to the workshop on the train! What’s more, once made, unlike pre-made picture frame mouldings, if damaged, we can often repair by sanding, filling and re-polishing to return the frame to its original condition. Cutting down the frame to display a smaller artwork is also relatively easy, meaning we can re-use and re-purpose.

Our job here is to make beautiful picture frames that last and that can be adapted, repaired, and loved for a lifetime.
