We have a lot of experience framing records, both 7″ and 12″, 12″ being the most popular, but we also frame CDs and DVDs as well. Records, though, remain the most popular. Often given as wedding gifts and featuring music of the couple’s first dance, but also for music that has been important in the life of the recipient (if a gift) or for the owner if not. And let’s not forget the sleeve, often artworks in their own right. Please contact us for details.

Framing Vinyl, Records, LPs, Singles, CDs and Cassettes

There are quite a few ways to frame vinyl from the very simple to as extravagant at you like – it’s really up to both the imagination and budget in mind. The photographs below show some of these different styles.

Please remember that any of these special frames can be custom-carved to almost any profile shape and design from custom sprayed. It’s really up to you.

Further customisation is also a possibility. For example, any of the below frames could have different backing boards, which could be material or painted, as engraved plaques or photographs. If these choices have sparked your imagination, then sketch your idea out and talk to us. We are sure we can make it happen and together create something truly unique and special, either for your own home or as a memorable frame gift for an anniversary, a birthday, a wedding, or any other occasion.

Disc Alone Method

  • Circular Frame with Window Mount Circular Frame with Window Mount

Here the disc can be framed either in a standard rectangular frame with a standard gallery frame, or in a custom carved circular or round frame, which can be almost any colour and finish you like (please see the Custom Colour Frame page for more information about this). The disc can be floated directly onto the backing mountboard, called a flat float, or window mounted with a circular aperture to add decorative value and also to keep the glass off the actual disc.

  • Circular Frame with Shadow Float and Spacer Ring Circular Frame with Shadow Float and Spacer Ring

Without a window mount a spacer would definitely be needed. This could be an unobtrusive 3mm acrylic spacer that tucks under the frame rebate (or “lip”) or a 12 or 20mm spacer to “push” the record towards the rear of the frame, which is also a nice look. A deeper spacer can also be used be employed when a shadow float is desired, which can be seen in the photograph. We can also mount records of any size without any glue or tape etc. This way the record can be removed from the frame in exactly the same condition as when it went in. We use this method for valuable records.

  • Half In Half Out LP Frame 1 Half In Half Out LP Frame 1

The most popular style of framing a record, LP or single. We framed this Dolly Parton example without the use of any tape or bonding agents to keep record and sleeve in place. This means that both record and sleeve can be removed from the frame in exactly the same condition as when they went in. UV glass can also minimise fading (though it does not guarantee it) while also allowing the true colours of sleeve work to show due to the crystal clear properties of this type of special glass.

  • Half In Half Out LP Frame 2 Half In Half Out LP Frame 2

In this example both sleeve and record are flat floated and a shaped window mount placed around them.

  • Half In Half Out LP Frame 3 Half In Half Out LP Frame 3

This client photo of the half-in half-out method with spacer incorporates a text box, which can be printed, as shown here, or with an engraved metal plaque of various styles, the most popular being polished brass, polished silver, brushed brass or silver, all of which can have plain or black-out lettering.

  • Shaped Record Frame Shaped Record Frame

Shows the same popular half-in half-out style of framing records, but in this case we carved the frame to compliment the shape of the co-joined sleeve and record. We then custom sprayed it in the same colour as the LP label text.

Vinyl Record Framing FAQs

What style is best suited for my record?

The style type depends on basically the value of the record as well as personal taste. For example, we can simply bond the record to the backboard if the record is just for the sake of the label, or example, if the song name was the music danced to on a certain occasion. If the record is valuable then we would make sure the record could be removed and played in exactly the same condition as when it went into the frame.

I would like to frame two discs in one frame. Can you do this?

Absolutely. We can frame as many discs as you like (up to what is physically possible!).

Can I design my own background for the record?

You can. We can make a backing for the record that could be a printed photograph or even a custom sprayed colour, etc.

Would a fancy background colour be doable?

Yes. We do this often. Anything from a super gloss custom colour to a liquid metal finish, bronze, white bronze, copper, acid etched. It all depends on your imagination.

Can I chose any frame? Say something ornate or custom carved?

We can make the most spectacular totally exclusive picture frames for music that you can dream of. Just get in touch.

I need it quickly. How long does it take to frame a record in a standard frame?

Sameday and nextday turnaround is usually perfectly doable.

And your standard turnaround time is what?

For a single or double record in a standard frame it is normally 3-5 working days.

Are the photos on this page real records or Ai generated picture frames?

These are all real physical examples and you are welcome to come in and see for yourself. They are all on the wall in our ground floor workshop.

Can you frame other formats of recorded music?

We can and do: 7″ and 12″ records, of course, which are the most popular, but also cassette tapes, CDs, DVDs, flash drives, mini-discs, laser discs, and also tape reels. Almost anything is possible.
