Furthermore, we are open six days a week and you do not need an appointment to visit us. We welcome all visitors to our workshop whether it be for advice or just to look at all our samples. The only time an appointment is recommended is if you wish to come either before or after our official opening times. This way we can make sure we are here for you. SPRAYING TO BESPOKE COLOUR CODES
Our professional custom colour service can be anything from simple plain colour to highly specialised finishes. We spray to almost any RAL code. The type of finish can be matt, satin, or gloss. We offer two types of gloss finish, standard gloss, which is called Gun Gloss and suitable for patterned or ornate frame profile shape, as well as Polished Gloss. Polished gloss works best on flat or curved surfaces, but the shine achieved is fantastic and shows off the colour beautifully.
As well as a vast range of RAL codes we can also match frame colours to Pantone codes, home décor paints like F&B, Little Green and Dulux, etc, and colour match frames to either the artwork or corporate branding. We can also customise our frames with corporate, gallery or artist branding by subtly engraving names or text on a part of the frame.
FURTHER CUSTOMISATION
When something else other than a plain colour is required then we can offer tailored bespoke spray painting for your picture frames. These embellishments can be subtle. For example, by choosing for a Pearl finish, which adds a soft sparkle to the base colour, or a textured Pearl finish like that found on our Wedding range of picture frames. We can also create two-tone effects, a finish where the colour shifts depending on how the light strikes the frame and the viewing position.
The limits of what we can do depend only on the imagination. A popular range of ours is the Guitar Finish, a highly polished paint that contains glitter. We only made these samples to show the possibilities, but they have proven to be highly popular. What’s more, the option to customise every aspect of the picture frame, from the profile size, shape and material to the finish, means we can help you create the most beautiful and unique picture frame for your project.
OPAQUE OR TRANSLUCENT OPTIONS
The standard matt, satin and gloss finishes can either be applied as a flawless smooth finish, or for the woodgrain to show. If the woodgrain is to show, then there are two options. These are Opaque and Wash. Opaque is where we use the same paint as for a smooth finish but without any grain filling. For the grain to show we would advise a wood type that has a pronounced grain. Oak is usually the best for this as the grain is quite deeply cut. If a Wash is required, then the wood type can be anything. Washes are translucent wood stains. And yes, they can be almost any colour.
If bright “rainbow” colours are required, then we usually advise Ash as the wood of choice for this. This is because Ash has a tight but beautiful grain with even colouring. Naturally pale, it expresses colour extremely well requiring little adjustment to colour code recipe. For “woody” colours like Mahogany, for example, we choose Walnut. You can see examples of all these possibilities on our website. As with solid colour paint, washes or grain-to-show opaque colouring can have either a matt, satin or gloss lacquer finish.
FRAME PROFILE CHOICE
As with paint colour and the paint finish, we can also customise the profile shape and size. When we make the spray-painted picture frame example you can see on our comprehensive website, we use only a few profile sizes and shapes to keep things as uniform as possible.
