We produce beautiful hand-finished rounded corner picture frames crafted on-site from a variety of woods and in a wide selection of profiles and finishes. Oval, triangular, in fact almost any shape of frame in almost any profile is possible, along with customised colours and finishes. Custom designed joints are also available. Almost all our frames are made from one piece so the grain flows around the entire frame, though this may not be possible with larger frames. You are welcome to choose the wood yourself from our stock. Please just ask.
HOW TO TURN A BEAUTIFUL FRAME INTO SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY
The making regular rectangular or square shaped picture frames is something we are often asked to do. Rounded corner picture frames could be the solution. It is an embellishment that adds unique yet subtle aesthetic substance to many different types of the picture frames that we offer. The rounded corner works beautifully with many different styles of artwork as well as for mirror framing.
THE POSSIBILITIES OF ROUNDED CORNER PICTURE FRAMES
We can round the corner of any of our Hand-Finished Frames, Custom Carved Frames, Double-Sided Frames, Custom Colour spray painted or stained Frames and Enhanced Standard Frames. We can also round the corners of our solid wood tray of custom floater frames too.
ROUNDED CORNER CUSTOMISATION
The customisation can be as minimalist or elaborate as both yourself and the artwork in question demands. It all depends on your imagination. If you are unsure of what you would like, please just get in contact, let us know your idea, and we will bring it into being, first by making a 3D render, and then by creating a real physical example.
3D renders allow you to see how the finished frame would look like, and make any adjustments as required.
DESIGN
Most of the rounded corner frames we make are for sleek contemporary profiles like 15mm x 30mm deep and 20mm wide x 30mm deep. Solidly sized profiles like 30mm x 30mm and larger are also popular because the thicker sections of gently curving timber really show off the wood grain.

Everything is customisable. This means the radius of the corner, the profile shape, and whether the inner and outer edge of that profile shape are straight or chamfered. Wood type, finish, and colour can be adapted to your exact requirements.

ROUNDED CORNER FRAMES
TOP SPLINE ROUNDED CORNERS
These examples show three profiles of our Hand Finished walnut frames but with rounded corners, the actual joins of which are covered by a decorative top spline. The top spline can be any thickness and even a different colour wood if desired. The spline also increases the strength of the corner joint. The profile sizes shown are 15mm x 45mm, 15mm x 30mm, and 17mm x 17mm. We can round the corners of most profiles, and like almost all our Hand Finished Frames, everything is customisable, both wood type, profile size and shape.
PLAIN ROUNDED CORNERS
A selection of our own rounded corner frames, but with time without top splines. We call this style “plain,” but think it is beautiful in its own right. We can make this type of rounded corner picture frame from almost any wood and in any profile size and shape. Woods shown here are walnut, oak, and sapelie.
WALNUT ROUNDED CORNER 1
Walnut is probably the most popular wood and we select our own timber for every project. These two examples, both of which can be seen in our workshop, have profile sizes of 40mm x 40mm and 20mm x 30mm. The larger has a square shape and the smaller had a rounded top as well as a radius on the actual corner. We call this shape Hockey Stick.
CUSTOM COLOUR ROUNDED CORNER FRAMES
We can make these gorgeous rounded corner frames using a base of Tulip wood or Medite MDF, depending on specification. The above examples were sprayed in our beige and lavender Desert Colours. Everything customisable of course!
CHOCOLATE WALNUT ROUNDED CORNER
A 30mm x 30mm chocolate walnut frame with a soft hard oil finish. We also milled a soft radius into both the inner and outer edge. Available in any profile size and wood.
ENHANCED STANDARD FRAMES WITH ROUNDED CORNERS
We can embellish all and any of our frame designs in our solid wood or Hand Finished ranges with gorgeous roudned corners. With this example we left the inner and outer edges sqaure to give a crisp clean look. Wood type is Obeche.

Rounder Corner Frames FAQs
Can I have a rounded corner on any frame?
We can add a rounded corner to any of our hand finished or solid timber frames. This includes custom sprayed and stained frames as well as tray frames and custom carved frames.
Does adding a rounded corner to a conventional frame cost more?
A lot of skilled labour and technique is involved to do this beautifully and so it does therefore cost more. Please contact us for further information.
Does adding a rounded corner to a frame also extend the turnaround time?
Generally not. When estimating turnaround times we always include some breathing space and we can use this space to minimise or avoid any extension to the estimated completion date.
Can you make other corner shapes to your frames?
Here at SohoFrames we are always up for a challenge. Just send us a sketch of your design idea for us to look at. We can then best see how to set about making a real physical example.
Is there a cost to making novel picture frame design samples?
Often not. We delight in bringing new picture frame ideas to life.

Can I visit and if so do I need an appointment?
We welcome visitors from all over the world to our central London workshop. No appointment is needed. However, if you would like to talk directly with the carving team and / or you would like to arrive after hours, then it is best to give us some notice.
Can I order an empty frame or rim so either myself or my own local picture framer can fit the artwork into it?
Of course. Any of our frames can be ordered “rim only”.
Can you deliver?
We can deliver and have delivered our picture frames to many countries around the world, so, yes no problem!
Are your picture frames branded?
Our custom carved and special unique frames usually carry the name of the Master Picture Framer who made it plus our company name. This is engraved into a part of the frame that is unseen.
I would like a rounded corner frame made to my own desgin, but I want my own name / company name on it. Will you do this?
We can and do as we make many very special frames for third party clients.
Can I bring my own wood for you to make the frame from?
We can often upcycle wood previously used in other applications, e.g. old or unwanted furniture, but not all wood is suitable for carving or picture frame making. We would need to know more about it.
