Welcome to SohoFrames! As a specialist picture framing workshop serving all of London and beyond, we have created a range of gorgeous custom colour picture frames that are suitable for all your artwork and mirror framing.

The picture frame corner samples on this page are real physical examples that can be inspected in our workshop. You will notice that most of the profile sizes are the same. We sprayed and stained the same profile sizes just to standardise things a little for the website photography, but we can apply these finishes to almost any profile size and shape.

There are no real standard colours though. Everything we do can be customised. We can spray paint our hand-crafted picture frames to almost any colour code. The most popular are the German RAL code, which is a huge range of standardised colour identifiers. The selection is vast. However, we can also colour frames to match many home décor paint schemes such as Farrow & Ball and Little Green, etc.

The colour finish can also be customised. We offer a flawless smooth finish in standard matt, satin and gloss. That said, we can also offer “dead” matt, and mirror gloss on most profile shapes, too. For picture frames with a smooth finish we tend to use Tulip wood (also known as Poplar) and then close the corner with a top spline. This prevents tiny hairline cracks appearing in the corner of the paint finish as well as adding structural strength to the finished picture frame.

If you prefer the wood grain to show through then we can do two things. The first is to make the picture frame from a wood with a looser or more pronounced grain such as Ash or Oak, and the custom spray the paint onto the prepared wood without any grain-filling. We often use this technique when a white or white palette “stain” effects are desired.

For other colours we can stain the wood. Wood stain is more translucent that paint, but please note that the wood colour does influence the final colour. We use Ash as this is the whitest wood with the nicest grain pattern and therefore works extremely well.

Whether we spray a painted “stain” or a true wood stain colour we can also further apply a matt, satin, gun gloss or mirror gloss lacquer over the colour.  We have a gorgeous selection of polished gloss stained walnut samples in our workshop as well as natural oak with polished gloss lacquer.

We also offer many other types of paint finishes on our picture frames. Here is a brief list.

Glitter Frames

This is where we mix metallic particles or glitter into the paint. The glitter density and colour can be customised and we can also mix different colour glitters together. The base paint colour can also be customised as can the final finish though polished gloss is the most popular.

Hand Applied Pearl

This is where we apply Pearl lacquer to the surface of the picture frame to give a textured appearance. You can see this finish on our Wedding Range on our Luxury Frames page.

As mentioned, everything can be customised. We can also further embellish our custom colour frames with rounded corners too.

If a completely custom colour is desired, for example, if you would like us to match a colour in an artwork, then we can also do that. We match the colour as best we can, then produce a sample for you to look at and then if all good we would go on to make the picture frame and spray to that matched colour. This service applies to both paint and stain finishes. There is usually no extra charge in requesting this service. We like it as every custom colour sample we produce then goes onto our workshop wall. In this way we can continually expand our range of physical frame colour samples.
