The first is that after nearly two decades of doing this we are experts in the framing of 3-dimensionally shaped sports tops. Reason number two is that we frame football shirts for many League Clubs, including the Premier League, as well as top-flight footballers, their corporate sponsors, and of course, football fans and collectors of sports memorabilia at all levels.

Over our years of experience framing shirts, we have developed our own special technique we call “minimal intervention.” As one of the UK’s leading picture framers, we treat football shirts the same way as any other piece of fine and valuable art. This technique or style, “minimum intervention” means that if the shirt ever needs to be taken out of the frame at any point it will look almost or the same as when it went in. We do not use staples or duct tape, only conservation and archival quality materials. The shirt is held in place by carefully placed attachments, usually tiny fine T-tags or cotton stitches, in the existing seams around the cuffs, collar and hem.

* Examine and measure the shirt.

* Next step is to gently steam any unsightly creases.

* Stretch the shirt with minimal intervention.

* The stretched shirt is photographed, and this image is then uploaded into our CAD software.

* One of our experienced football shirt framers designs a unique bevel-edged picture mount to exactly fit the shape of the shirt.

* This window mount pattern is then cut on one of our two state-of-the-art CNC mount cutting machines.

* We mount the shirt, add glass and backing.

* We fit the all the internal parts into the picture frame of choice.

* After a quality check the beautifully framed shirt is now ready for collection or delivery.

We can frame a football shirt in almost any way you would like, but most choose our signature style, which is full size, with a unique mount designed for your shirt and then framed in well, almost any frame you can think of.

Most of our football shirt frames are framed in either a standard frame or a hand-finished frame. Our standard frames are of super quality and are always the go-to range when a framed shirt is needed urgently, usually for a gift or a presentation. It allows us to turn around the frame in as little as one day. Hand-finished frames offer finer finishes and a greater selection of profile shapes, sizes and finishes. Many clients choose these types of frames. Polished walnut is a popular choice. The richness of the wood lifts the overall look of the frame turning it into something truly beautiful. A simple elegant profile like the 20mm wide x 30mm deep profile works well with the size of a football shirt frame. With an approximate outside size of 850mm x 850mm (when framed full-size) the shirt frame looks balanced and proportional.

Wider or chunkier frames also work well. And one of the advantages of choosing a solid wood frame of whatever design or profile size for the shirt is that we can add rounded corners to it. This is a subtle but beautiful embellishment that turns the frame into a truly unique piece or art.

We have also framed shirts in ornate gold frames and custom sprayed frames too. The frame colour could match the team colours or a particular colour in the shirt design. We can spray the entire frame in this colour, or for example, just the sight edge (this is the small vertical surface on the rebat that is next to the glass). The main frame could be white for example and the sight edge red. It’s a subtle elegant piece of customisation.

Some clients even chose a custom carved frame, which could be natural wood or coloured, featuring a pattern of their own design or for example, the club emblem carved into the centre of the frame. We can make the frame to be as unique as you like.
