FOOTBALL SHIRT FRAMING LAMBETH

SohoFrames is one of the few truly professional framers of signed football shirts. We frame shirts for all League clubs, including Premier League as well as for corporate sponsors and of course, which is the majority of our work, the fans. If a signed shirt is worth framing, then it is worth doing well and in a way that it will last a lifetime.

We have two decades of experience and over this time have developed our own signature method and style where the shirt is displayed full-size and framed with minimal intervention.  What is minimal intervention? This means that we treat the football shirt the same as a piece of fine art and therefore frame it as such. It means that when we mount the shirt that we use only the minimal amount of contact, placing stitches only in existing seams around the collar, cuffs, and hems. If ever the shirt was unframed it will look almost no different from its original condition.

We can and do of course frame shirts in other styles if the client demands it. For example, this may be for space reasons which necessitate a folded shirt, or to match a certain vision. Shirt frames can also include photographs (and yes, we print, in-house, too) as well as engraved plaques, which is again something we offer.

Our football shirt frames can be of many types. Everything from a simple black profile to beautiful solid woods like walnut and Ash, both of which can be stained or custom sprayed (we use Tulip wood for when a smooth flawless paint finish is required) to suit shirt, décor or team colours. We have also framed football shirts when a club is launching a new shirt design in ornate gold frames and custom carved designs, all of which can be totally unique depending on the design brief.

Our professional standard football shirt framing is labour intensive, but we can still often turnaround a shirt for a last minute gift or presentation moment in as little as 24 hours (often sameday).

FAQs

Q. My shirt is full of creases. Can you fix?

A. Yes, we can. We do this with gentle steaming.

Q. But my shirt is signed with a Sharpie. Will the ink run?

A. We are careful not to damage the shirt in any way and have over a decade of experience doing this.

Q. I want my shirt framed, but I am afraid that the signature will fade. Is there anything you can do to prevent this?

A. We can minimise the chance of the signature fading by fitting anti-reflective artglass, which comes with three levels of UV filtering.

Q. Does this prevent fading?

A. No. It minimises the risk of fading.

Q. Anything else I can do?

A. Once framed with UV glass it is best to hang it out of direct sunlight. But remember, the framed football is to be enjoyed and if framed with us it should give you a lifetime of pleasure.

Q. I want a custom colour to my frame. Can you do this?

A. We can. We can spray the frame to almost any colour code and match uncoded colours too. We can spray the entire frame or a part of it for a subtle highlight, for example, the sight edge (the small often 5mm wide inner vertical edge of the frame) could be red and the rest of the frame white.

Q. What are the steps required to frame a football shirt properly?

A. Steam. Stretch. Stitch. Mount. Frame.

Here it is in more detail:

  1. First, we steam to remove any creases.
  2. Then we stretch the shirt onto a panel of conservation or archival quality mountboard using expertly placed stitches, which can be either cotton or tiny T-tags or a mixture of both.
  3. We then photograph the stretched shirt and upload this photo into our CAD software.
  4. We design a bevel-edged window mount to the exact shape of the shirt. This is then cut on one of our two CNC precision mount cutters.
  5. We check the fit and if no adjustments are needed, we then mount the shirt.
  6. The frame, which other members of our skilled team were making at the same time is then fitted along with the glass of the client’s choosing.
  7. Backing and the appropriate hangings for the frame are fitted.
  8. Quality check.
  9. Client notified
  10. Frame wrapped for collection or dispatched anywhere in the world.
