OUR METHOD

We treat ever football shirt that arrives in our 5-storey workshop as a piece of fine art. Through a process of continued innovation over more than fifteen years, we have now developed our signature method of framing football shirts that we call Minimum Intervention.

This is a method that means if ever a shirt that we frame needs to be removed from the frame for some reason, then it will be in almost the same condition as when it went in. No staples, not cutting, no unsightly holes or duct tape, and yes, we have seen all these things in shirts that arrive in our workshop for reframing. As mentioned, we treat a football shirt as a piece of fine art and use the same care and attention, skill and expertise when framing them.

THE PROCESS

We begin by examining the shirt. Next, we gently steam the garment to remove any creases, being careful not damage any signatures or autographs – autographed football shirts of course are the top reason for wishing to frame them. The next step is to stretch the shirt onto a conservation or archival grade mountboard, holding it in place by the careful insertion of stitches. These are either made from cotton thread or tiny plastic T-tags. We place them only in the existing seams on the collar, cuffs and sometimes the hem.

With the shirt now ready for mounting, we photograph it and design a uniquely shaped bevel-edged window mount on our CAD software. We then cut this mount on one of our two CNC mountcutters. Once that is done and the fit perfect, we go on to the frame the shirt in a frame profile specified. The shirt is then ready for collection or delivery.

STYLE VARIATIONS

The most popular shirt framing style is full size, as you can see in the photos on this page. However, we can also fold the shirt. This is sometimes to make the frame smaller to for example, make sure it fits into a certain space on the wall, or if the client wishes us to replicate an existing shirt framing style that they like.

CUSTOMISATION

You can customise every part of your football shirt frame. These additions can be subtle, for example, by including an engraved plaque and / or some photographs of the players or sponsors inside the frame (we print on-site using the latest state-of-the-art Canon printer and Lucia inks), or more complex.

FRAME CHOICE

Many of the frames we make for our professional football shirt framing service are from our Standard Frame selection. The most popular is a 20mm wide x 30mm deep profile. This frame is available in black or white with either a woodgrain finish or a smooth factory applied paint finish. The quality is very good.

However, we also offer a fantastic Custom Colour spray-paint service. The finish is flawless and the colour choice is in the hundreds. We spray to almost any RAL code, but also match corporate branding Pantone colours, home décor paint colours as well as more specialised colour mixes. All our coloured frames can have either a matt, satin or gloss lacquer top coat. We can spray the entire frame in a single colour, or in a combination of colours. For example, the main part of the frame could be red and the inner sight edge white. Almost anything is possible.

FRAME ENGRAVING

We can also engrave onto the actual frame. This could be the Football Club name, or the player’s name, the recipient, etc. The engraving can be in the centre of the top or bottom, or in a more subtle location like the sight edge or side.

ELABORATE FRAMES

Painted frames, either standard frames or from our custom colour range are popular. However, we frame many shirts in Luxury Frames if something ornate is required. GLAZING

There are several glazing options to chose from standard glass to anti-reflective artglass, which come with three UV levels, 70%, 92% and 99%, something to consider when wishing to reduce the fading risk to shirt and signature. We also offer the same options in acrylic, including museum acrylic. Acrylic glazing is often desired if shirts are to be displayed in a public place or if the framed shirt is to be shipped out of the UK.
