Welcome to SohoFrames, one of the country’s leading makers of the finest solid wood hand-finished picture frames along with (possibly) the fastest turnaround times around. How do we do this? We have a 5-story central London workshop and a team of highly skilled and motivated picture framers.

Our on-site picture framing workshop serves both the Brixton area as well as the rest of South London. We also offer unrivalled customer service. For example, you are most welcome to email, call or message us seven days a week. This includes Bank Holidays. Our workshop opening times for visitors are 10am til 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 12.30 til 5pm on Saturdays. No appointment is needed. However, if you wish to pop in and see what we do and how we do it outside of these hours then just give us some notice and we will make sure someone is here for you.

We are lucky enough to have five floors of framing. In the basement, we have two CNC mount making machines, which means we can make precision cut picture mounts (or mats) even while-u-wait. The ground floor is the main framing workshop where you can examine all our solid wood hand-finished frame samples. Then there is a printing, scanning and drymounting floor, followed by the custom carving department and finally the hand-finished frames workshop. You are welcome to a tour. It’s your frame after all.

FREEDOM TO CUSTOMISE

You are welcome to choose your own timber from our stock of planks when commissioning a custom carved frame. If there is something that you would like that we don’t have, we will do our best to source it. This could mean an alteration to a stock profile. For example, you might like the framer profile to be wider, or thinner, or taller, or shorter. These subtle customisations are all possible. We can even change the shape or match the shape and size of an existing picture frame profile you might already have or may have seen somewhere else, like a museum or art gallery for example.

Every one of our gorgeous solid wood hand-finished frames are made from sustainable timber that we personally choose ourselves from a local FSC timber yard. To minimise our carbon footprint as much as possible, we travel to and from this yard on public transport, often bringing back one or two planks for a specific job on the train.

Everything we do is made exactly to your specifications. The photos below show just two ranges of our most popular Walnut wood variants. These have a natural and a mahogany finish, but we also offer a deep chocolate and rosewood finish in this wood. The photos showcase some of the profile shapes sizes and finishes available. However, we can custom mill almost any profile shape and size you would like to compliment best your framing, art or mirror project.

The most popular woods we stock are walnut, oak, ash, tulip, beech, and cherry. We make all profiles you can see here in all these woods, plus any adaptations or embellishments you require. An example of a popular picture frame embellishment is the rounded corner. We can make these on any of the frames in our had-finished solid wood range. These kinds of corners really do add a special touch, turning the frame into a unique piece that would fit beautifully in the home. Please see HERE for more information on this.

We can make frames from lesser known woods, using solid FSC timber sourced from other parts of the world. These could be various types of Pine, Douglas Fir, Maple, Iroko. We can also upcycle your old furniture, doors, draining boards and even old picture frames, turning these into new picture frames. It’s a nice way to preserve and renew something that would have previously gone to waste. We do this a lot for people renovating houses as a reminder of what was there before.

As well as using different blends of hard wax oils to finish and colour our hand-finished range, we can also stain woods to almost any RAL code. Check out the link HERE to see examples of this. When colouring woods to brighter codes, i.e., not woody tones (which are predominately in the red-brown palette) we use Ash. Ash is a pale wood with a pleasing grain pattern that takes coloured wash stains extremely well. We make many gorgeous solid wood hand-finished frames in a huge range of colours, pinks, yellows, greens, blues, etc. Even bespoke colours are possible. This is something we often do when our client’s wish to have a picture frame that matches a colour picked out from the artwork.    

We can also apply a clear polished mirror lacquer to any of solid wood frames. This works if it the frame is left “natural” or without any staining, or if we have stained it with a bright colour.

There is often no charge for samples either.

We print on-site using the latest Canon printer and Lucia inks along with high-end digital scanning (up to A3 in size) and organise delivery of the finished frame(s) as well as helping organise professional picture frame installation with one of our trusted partners.
