Working with Master Frame Maker Curtis O’dell, we have spent many years perfecting the technique and honing our picture framing skills to hand produce some of the world’s most fabulous round and oval picture frames. Some examples of Curtis’s work can be found on our website. We also delight in creating these types of non-standard picture frames in other shapes. These could be octagons, hexagons, triangles, in fact, almost any geometric shapes, whether as single stand-alone frames or ones that form part of a larger series. For example, triangular segments, either with straight edges to form a hexagon, for example, or with a single curved edge so that together the triangles form a circle.

Most of our work however is the design, creation and production of bespoke circular picture frames. There are many options available in terms of the frame profile. We can carve simple square section profiles from woods like walnut and oak. We join each section using three main styles of carpentry: “spoon”, which is joint designed by our colleague Alex Vintilescu and features a flowing curved line between the two adjacent pieces,  “puzzle”, which is based on the typical jigsaw puzzle shape, and “butt”, which is a straight line joint perpendicular to the outside edge of the frame. We join the frame in sections to avoid as much end-grain as possible. We also welcome client ideas if a truly unique join is required as all joints posses their own beauty, which adds to the overall look of the finished frame.

Our simple but elegant round frame profiles can also be customised in terms of front face width, side depth, sight edge thickness and rebat or frame lip measurement.  An example would be a request for a wider frame lip (which may or may not involve a wider front face width) to cover more of the edge of a canvas.
